The European Commission’s new political guidelines for 2024–2029 emphasize the agri-food sector’s strategic importance, pledging support for innovation and sustainability. FEFAC, the voice of the European compound feed and premix industry, welcomed the initiative, aligning with the goal to strengthen the EU livestock sector and promote climate-smart feed solutions.

The European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, on July 18, 2024, presented the new Political Guidelines for the next European Commission at the European Parliament. She underscored the agri-food sector as a “strategic asset” vital for global food security and announced plans for a “Vision for Agriculture and Food” within the first 100 days. This vision will focus on ensuring the long-term competitiveness and sustainability of the EU’s farming sector.

Von der Leyen also introduced a new EU Competitiveness Fund, aimed at driving investment and innovation across the entire food value chain. This includes farms, cooperatives, agri-food businesses, and SMEs, as part of a broader strategy for Europe’s sustainable prosperity.

FEFAC (European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation) President Pedro Cordero expressed strong support for the new guidelines, emphasizing FEFAC’s readiness to strengthen the EU livestock sector. “The feed industry is ready to strengthen the competitiveness of the EU livestock sector and agri-food chain, by driving innovation towards circular feed resources and implementing climate-smart feed solutions,” Cordero stated.

Cordero also highlighted FEFAC’s 12 key recommendations for the EU’s strategic agenda, which align with the new political guidelines.
