Turkey imports $ 3.5 billion feed annually

Speaking at the International Animal Nutrition Congress organized by the Animal Nutrition Science Association, Ülkü Karakuş, Chairman of Animal Feed Association of Turkey said that growing by 350 percent in the last 20 years, Turkey’s feed industry has reached a production of 25 million tons. Pointing out that raw material import increases by half a million each year, he told Turkey spends $ 3.5 billion raw material for feed. "Turkey’s vegetative production cannot meet the need of the fast-growing feed industry in our country,” he stated.

Also speaking in the Congress took place in Antalya, Halil Ibrahim Sözmen, General Directorate of Livestock and Cattle Department of Turkey’s Agriculture and Forestry Ministry, said that although global food supply is sufficient, starvation remains a major problem due to the dispersion imbalance.“In the new period, the Ministry has set a solution-oriented strategy in line with the needs of the country and the sector”, Mr. Sözmen said. In this regard, the Ministry regulates its strategy to increase animal health and registration through performance-enhancing measures such as raising livestock, improving quality and productivity, he remarked.
