Hsin Huang has been named the new Chair of the FAO-hosted Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL), succeeding Shirley Tarawali, whose tenure is concluded in November 2024. The official handover took place at GASL’s Guiding Group meeting in Rome on November 18-19.
Shirley Tarawali
Huang brings over three decades of experience in global livestock and agricultural policy. His career includes leadership roles such as Secretary General of the International Meat Secretariat, Economist at the OECD, and Senior Economist at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. Reflecting on her successor, Tarawali noted: “He is very aware of the global livestock issues, and he is well known and respected in the community. Having led LEAP so successfully, I am sure he is the right person to grow GASL on the international scene and effectively put in practice the 2025-2027 Action Plan.”
Huang expressed gratitude to his predecessor, stating, “We are very grateful to Shirley for serving as captain of our ship and expertly navigating the complexity of the GASL multistakeholder partnership these last four years. I would like to thank her, on behalf of the Agenda support team, and the whole Global Agenda, for her leadership and commitment to sustainable livestock.”
