The European Pet Food Industry Federation (FEDIAF) has released the 2025 version of its nutritional guidelines for cats and dogs. The document, widely used across Europe, serves as the main reference for manufacturers, regulators and professionals involved in pet food formulation and safety.
FEDIAF announced the availability of its revised Nutritional Guidelines for Complete and Complementary Pet Food for Cats and Dogs, a peer-reviewed guide produced with input from independent veterinary nutritionists across Europe. The federation said the new version continues to provide practical, science-based recommendations to ensure that pet foods meet the nutritional needs of healthy animals.

According to FEDIAF, the guidelines aim to confirm the essential nutrient levels required in pet diets, assist manufacturers in assessing nutritional adequacy, and serve as a reference point for EU and national authorities, consumer organizations and veterinarians. They also complement the association’s existing guidance on safe manufacturing practices and responsible communication in the pet food sector.
FEDIAF works closely with international authorities, including the American Association of Food Control Officers (AAFCO), and collaborates with leading scientists, veterinarians, biochemists and animal behaviorists to ensure the guidelines reflect the latest research and feeding requirements.
