European livestock herd sizes sustained across-the-board reductions in 2025, signaling persistent shifts in animal agriculture demand and feed sector fundamentals. Recent Eurostat figures confirm both short-term contractions and substantial ten-year declines for pigs, bovines, sheep, and goats.

EU livestock production is set to decline across most sectors in 2026, with particularly sharp drops in sheep and goat numbers. In contrast, pig production is projected to rise, signaling a notable shift in the region’s livestock dynamics. The divergence points to changing supply patterns with implications for feed demand.

Registration is now open for the 31st FEFAC Congress, which will take place on 20 May 2026 in Bucharest. Organized together with Romania’s ANFNC, the three-day program will convene European feed sector leaders for discussions on market trends, policy shifts and the future of livestock production in a circular bioeconomy.

All major livestock categories in the EU recorded further declines in 2024. Goat numbers dropped most significantly, continuing a steady downward trend since 2014.
