Prolonged coastal warming in Peru and extended fishing closures are projected to drive global fishmeal output below 4.6 million metric tons in 2026, the lowest level since the 2016 El Niño crisis. According to IFFO, the sharp contraction in marine raw materials is tightening global aquafeed supply chains and accelerating the shift toward alternative feed ingredients.

IFFO has released its 2024 Annual Report, emphasizing a strategic shift in marine ingredient supply through global collaboration, responsible sourcing, and greater use of fish by-products in fishmeal and fish oil production.

Fishmeal production saw a significant increase of 40% in the first half of 2024, largely driven by a successful fishing season in Peru’s North-Centre region.

In a recent analysis by the International Fishmeal and Fish Oil Organization (IFFO), insights into the 2023 production of fishmeal and fish oil suggest a notable decline in both sectors compared to previous years.
