Zelenskiy and von der Leyen discuss new grain export routes amid Black Sea blockage

With the Black Sea corridor blocked due to Russia's exit from a U.N.-backed deal, Ukraine and the EU explore alternative paths for vital grain exports.

Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, and European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, have embarked on discussions seeking alternative routes for Ukraine's grain exports. Since Russia's withdrawal in July from a United Nations-supported agreement, the typical passage via three sanctioned Black Sea ports became inaccessible. To address this, Kyiv initiated a temporary humanitarian corridor in the Black Sea specifically for grain exports. Furthermore, the two leaders emphasized the importance of ongoing "constructive dialogue" to ease grain export constraints instituted by some of Ukraine's bordering nations.
