The U.S. Grains Council has become a member of the Global Feed LCA Institute (GFLI), reinforcing its commitment to sustainability in international feed supply chains. This membership aims to enhance the accuracy and reliability of sustainability data for U.S. corn, sorghum, and barley.
The U.S. Grains Council (USGC), a non-profit organization dedicated to developing export markets for U.S. corn, sorghum, and barley, has joined the Global Feed LCA Institute (GFLI). This move highlights the Council’s dedication to sustainable production practices and improving international food, feed, and fuel supply chains.
Recognizing the critical need for precise and comparable sustainability data, the U.S. Grains Council engages with both domestic and global stakeholders to align with emerging sustainability standards. Carlos Suarez, Manager of Sustainability, Policy, and Innovation, emphasized the importance of trusted tools for life cycle analysis (LCA) in supporting decision-making and defining industry standards. “The U.S. Grains Council has embraced a thoughtful and thorough approach to sustainability,” Suarez stated. “There is a growing importance and need for trusted tools that allow the comparison of different feed ingredients using LCA methodologies. That is why we have chosen to join GFLI, and contribute to the work in this space, to ensure the sustainability attributes engrained in U.S. corn, sorghum and barley production are adequately captured.”
By joining GFLI, the U.S. Grains Council aims to ensure that the sustainability attributes of U.S. corn, sorghum, and barley are accurately represented. This partnership will contribute to the global effort of reducing environmental impacts across the feed industry. GFLI has welcomed the U.S. Grains Council as a member and looks forward to collaborative efforts in advancing sustainability plans.
