Skretting has launched a dedicated LifeStart production facility in Zhuhai, its first in Asia, alongside five new hatchery feeds for species like salmon and tilapia. With this move, the company aims to respond to China's growing demand for high-performance aquaculture nutrition.
Skretting China inaugurated its new LifeStart production line in mid-April, in Zhuhai, marking its first Asia-based facility specialized in early-life stage feeds. The opening coincided with the release of five hatchery feed products targeting salmon, tilapia, golden pompano, snakehead, and catfish—addressing industry challenges like fry resilience and disease susceptibility.

Parent company Nutreco is positioning China as a strategic growth market, with Skretting aiming to dominate the LifeStart segment by 2030, particularly for salmonids, shrimp, and marine fish. China’s aquaculture sector, the world’s second-largest seafood producer after pork, is shifting toward precision nutrition and sustainable practices.
“We aim to be the undisputed leader in this space by 2030, particularly for salmonids, shrimp, and marine fish,” said Skretting CEO Bastiaan van Tilburg. Jason Yang, Nutreco China’s general manager, added that customers increasingly seek trusted brands with health and performance-focused solutions.
The LifeStart range targets larval and juvenile stages, aiming to improve survival rates and yield throughout the production cycle. The Zhuhai facility strengthens Skretting’s capacity to meet demand in one of aquaculture’s most competitive markets.
