New Turkish biosecurity decree published

A biosafety decree on GMO products that can be used in animal feed has been published in the Turkish Official Gazette. Under the decree, the licenses of five corn types have been revoked, while one corn and four soybean varieties were allowed.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has approved the use of genetically modified one corn and four soy varieties and products in animal feed. The permit granted upon the application of the Turkish Poultry Meat Manufacturers and Breeders Association (BESD-BİR) will be valid for ten years. The biosecurity decree of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry permitting the use of genetically modified (GMO) corn and soy as animal feed has been published in the Official Gazette. Accordingly, the approvals for DAS 1507 X NK 603, NK 603 X MON 810, MON 89034 X NK 603, 59122 X 1507 X NK 603, MON 88017 X MON 810 corn varieties and products for use in animal feed have been revoked. Contrarily, DAS-40278-9 corn, A2704-12 soy, MON 40-3-2 soy, MON 89788 soy, DAS-44406-6 soy, and products are approved for use in animal feed.
