Grupo Almar collaborates with dsm-firmenich for shrimp farming

World-leading shrimp producer partners with global nutrition giant dsm-firmenich to enhance environmental sustainability in aquaculture.

Grupo Almar, a top shrimp producer, and dsm-firmenich have announced a strategic partnership. The goal is to comprehensively assess and enhance Grupo Almar’s environmental impact.

From January 2024, dsm-firmenich will provide detailed environmental footprints of Grupo Almar’s shrimp production. Impressively, Grupo Almar produces about 10% of Ecuador’s shrimp exports using just 2% of farmable land.

Inspired by the salmon industry’s significant environmental advancements using tools like Sustell, dsm-firmenich’s intelligent sustainability service, Grupo Almar aims to affirm its dedication to sustainability.

Wolfgang Harten, COO of Grupo Almar, emphasized their commitment to both technological and sustainable advancement, remarking on their ambition to manage their complete environmental footprint.

Pamela Nath, of the Sustainable Shrimp Partnership, lauded the initiative, spotlighting the Ecuadorian shrimp industry’s dedication to sustainable practices. This collaboration is anticipated to pioneer sustainability across the broader shrimp production value chain.
