Evonik and Vland have established a joint venture in China, aiming to expand their animal nutrition portfolios, particularly in gut health solutions. The collaboration targets the Greater China Region, a dominant market that represents over 20% of global feed additives.
In a strategic move that signifies a substantial shift in the animal nutrition landscape, global giants Evonik and Vland have come together to form a joint venture. Their collaboration seeks to combine and leverage Vland's market access and regulatory prowess in China with Evonik’s vast global reach, encompassing R&D and global regulatory capabilities.
Dr. Gaetano Blanda, head of the Animal Nutrition business line of Evonik, stated, “This joint venture combines the strengths of two successful players in the feed additives business and provides a solid platform for future growth.” He emphasized how this collaboration would facilitate broader market access for their products and pool their innovative capabilities.
The partnership resonates with Evonik’s strategy announced earlier this year, focusing on specialty nutrition with system solutions for poultry, swine, and ruminants. Shirley Qi, regional president of SEAANZ and head of Nutrition & Care Asia at Evonik, remarked, "Both companies will grow faster together than they would have on their own."
The new joint venture, named Evonik Vland Biotech (Shandong) Co., Ltd., will primarily target the Greater China Region, a significant market accounting for more than 20% of the global feed additives sector. Both companies will integrate their gut health businesses, including probiotics and formulated products, to serve this region. Moreover, Evonik will distribute the joint venture’s portfolio outside of the Greater China Region.
Addressing the importance of sustainable solutions in animal feed, the joint venture aims to promote gut health solutions that maintain farm animal productivity without resorting to antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs). The foundation of this initiative is probiotics that help in maintaining or restoring the microbial balance in the animal’s gut.
This partnership between Evonik and Vland promises a holistic approach to animal nutrition, fostering health and sustainability in the sector.
