Opening the meeting, Mr. Thanawat Tiensin, FAO’s Assistant Director-General, emphasized the "vital role of the feed and livestock sector in driving sustainable transformation" and highlighted the need for cross-sector partnerships to tackle food security and environmental challenges. "Livestock production is a cornerstone of agrifood systems, providing essential nutrition and economic opportunities worldwide," he noted.

Among the key topics discussed were the reduction of antimicrobial use in livestock farming, the convergence of global feed standards, and the role of emerging food technologies like cell-based food. The meeting also addressed sustainable feed production strategies and environmental sustainability initiatives, particularly in East Africa. Both IFIF and FAO reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the global feed industry in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
