Evonik's ongoing upgrade of its production facility for essential DL-methionine products in Singapore marks a significant step forward, with the first phase successfully completed.

Following a three-month shutdown in the fourth quarter of 2023, Evonik's production facility for its MetAMINO® (DL-methionine) in Singapore is now operating at full capacity. However, a second shutdown of another production plant is scheduled for the second quarter of 2024.

This modification forms part of Evonik's strategy to ensure long-term and sustainable global supply security of its DL-methionine products, encompassing various locations worldwide.

Dr. Dirk Hoehler, head of the Essential Nutrition business at Evonik’s Animal Nutrition business line, emphasized, “As the only global methionine provider, we are able to offer our customers worldwide supply security. Beyond that, we constantly seek to raise the sustainability of our production plants.”

The upgrade aims to enhance efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of production processes, aligning with Evonik's commitment to sustainability. Measures include the utilization of green hydrogen, energy integration, and innovative solutions for improved circularity, resulting in a six percent reduction in the product's carbon footprint from the plants in Singapore.

These efforts not only benefit Evonik's customers but also contribute to sustainability goals along the food value chain. Evonik has established science-based targets to reduce emissions and aims for net-zero emissions by 2050.

DL-methionine, used in livestock production to promote health and efficiency, plays a vital role in supplying a growing world population with high-quality and affordable animal protein. It forms part of Evonik's Nutrition & Care division, contributing significantly to its profitable growth.

This upgrade showcases Evonik's dedication to innovation, sustainability, and meeting the evolving needs of the animal nutrition industry.
