COFCO International has initiated the construction of the STS11 agricultural terminal at the Port of Santos, Brazil, as commemorated by a groundbreaking ceremony. This addition will boost COFCO's personal port capacity in Brazil from 3 to 14 million tons, with phased operations beginning from 2025 to 2026.
The Port of Santos, situated strategically on São Paulo's coastline, stands as Latin America's biggest port, linking over 600 ports across 125 nations. According to the Santos Port Authority, it is also Brazil's prime foreign trade gateway, accounting for nearly 27% (USD 112.3 billion) of the nation's trade balance.
The ceremony on 8 August, graced by officials from the Santos Municipal Government, Santos Port Authority, and other Chinese businesses in Brazil, underscores COFCO's dedication to both the Port of Santos and the eco-friendly progression of Brazilian agriculture. This venture is also anticipated to offer Brazilian farmers increased options, and sustain local communities nationwide for the foreseeable future.
