dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health and Bayer have joined forces to improve sustainability across the animal protein value chain. By combining Bayer’s crop life cycle data with Sustell™, the partnership aims to deliver accurate environmental footprinting from feed crops to final products.

Lionnel Alexandre

dsm-firmenich and Bayer have formalized a collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding to advance sustainability in animal agriculture. The partnership will integrate Bayer’s expertise in primary crop life cycle assessment (LCA) data with Sustell™, dsm-firmenich’s ISO-assured environmental footprinting tool for animal protein, enabling the sector to measure and reduce environmental impacts more accurately.

Lionnel Alexandre, EMEA Head of Ecosystem Services at Bayer, said, “The ability to accurately measure, valorize, and recognize the real efforts made by farmers is a critical milestone toward long-term, viable and regenerative agriculture. Extending these capabilities across the animal protein value chain is a powerful step forward for the entire ecosystem.”

David Nickell

David Nickell, VP Sustainability and Business Solutions and Head of Sustell™ at dsm-firmenich, added, “This collaboration will benefit companies along the value chain, allowing them to gain more accurate insights into the sustainability of their animal protein supply chains while unlocking significant value opportunities.”

The collaboration addresses growing demand from consumers, retailers, and investors for transparent and credible environmental reporting. It enables feed producers, integrators, and processors to identify areas of improvement across feed sourcing, crop production, and animal farming.

This partnership builds on dsm-firmenich’s leadership in animal nutrition and Bayer’s crop expertise, setting a new benchmark for sustainability and transparency in animal protein production. Together, they aim to drive resilient and regenerative farming practices that benefit farmers, consumers, and the planet.
