Brazil produced 43.4 million tons of animal feed between January and June 2025, driven mainly by poultry, dairy, aquaculture and pet food demand. Despite export and sanitary pressures, the country’s feed sector remains one of the largest and most influential in the world.
According to Sindirações (Brazilian Feed Industry Association), total feed output grew steadily compared to the same period in 2024, underscoring the sector’s resilience. Poultry continued to dominate consumption with 18.9 million tons. Although avian influenza restrictions weighed on export volumes, chicken meat output is still expected to exceed 15 million tons this year, according to Associação Brasileira de Proteína Animal (Brazilian Animal Protein Association – ABPA).
Demand from commercial laying hens reached 3.7 million tons, supported by a 3.3% increase in flock size and strong egg exports, particularly to the United States. In the dairy sector, preliminary data from Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE) show milk collection rising 6.1% year on year. This growth required over 3.7 million tons of feed, helped by improved profitability and lower feed costs.
Feed use for beef cattle totaled 2.75 million tons in the first half of 2025, while aquaculture feed reached 892,000 tons as fish farmers faced price pressures and disease risks. Pet food output neared 2 million tons, accounting for more than half of the pet product industry’s revenue, according to Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Produtos para Animais de Estimação (Brazilian Association of Pet Products – ABINPET).
