‘Miracle plant’ produced in Adana

Considered as a miracle plant for fuel and feed sector, sweet sorghum, whose first trial production was carried out in Adana, was harvested for the first time in Turkey. 

sorgumThe sweet sorghum which is regarded as a 'miracle plant' for the feed and fuel sector and used to generate bioethanol, the main ingredient of petrol, was introduced in Adana. The 'Energy Plants and Sorghum Field Day' was held at the Eastern Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute under 'Determination of bio-ethanol production potentials of sorghum genotypes in Cilician Plain and Southeastern Anatolia’ project conducted with the support of TÜBİTAK. Muhammed Ali Tekin, the director of Adana Food, Agriculture, and Livestock, pointed out that the highest cost in husbandry is feed and stated that, "While we can reach 10 tonnes in corn silage, we estimate that 15-20 tons can be obtained from this plant."
