Turkish sceintists’ discovery of 'nano fish’

Turkish scientists have discovered the 'nano fish', the smallest fish and the smallest vertabrate species of the Mediterranean Sea and the Continental Europe. The size of the fish is 1.5 cm.

nanobalikProf. Dr. Semih Ergin, the Dean of Faculty of Aquatics of Izmir Katip Çelebi University (İKÇU) and Dilruba Seyhan Öztürk, Research Assistant, have discovered the 'nano fish', the smallest fish and the smallest vertebrate species of the Mediterranean Sea and the Continental Europe. Following the discovery, the fish is named Pomatoschistus Nanus. The fish that is classified under the group of rockfish serve as a feed for other fish. The fish with an average size of 1.5 cm is important for ecological balance completing an important link in the food chain. Pomatoschistus Nanus, discovered in 2016, was introduced to the world in an important scientific journal published in Europe in September.
