Chicken egg production in Türkiye exceeded 1.9 billion units in January, reaching its highest level in the past three years. While double-digit annual growth stood out, industry representatives highlighted strong production capacity and supply security.

According to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), chicken egg production reached 1 billion 902 million 299 thousand units in January. This marks the highest level since 2022. Production increased by 15.1% year-on-year and by 2.2% compared to the previous month.

İbrahim Afyon, Chairman of the Central Union of Egg Producers in Türkiye (YUM-BİR), stated that the increase demonstrates the sector’s sustained production capacity and supports supply security. “Exceeding 1.9 billion units in January shows that supply security in eggs is being maintained thanks to our strong production infrastructure,” he said.

Afyon noted that Türkiye has a high self-sufficiency ratio in egg production, adding that the level, which stood at 133% in 2024 and 115% in 2025, is expected to reach around 130% again in 2026. He emphasized that this outlook indicates exports can regain momentum once domestic demand is met.

Pointing out that many countries are imposing export restrictions on agricultural and food products, Afyon underlined that Türkiye is able to generate a supply surplus thanks to its production strength. “Exports are one of the most important safeguards for food supply security and production growth,” he said, adding that utilizing the surplus through exports and the food industry is critical for sustainability.

Afyon also stated that producers made sacrifices during the Ramadan period to help stabilize prices, while emphasizing that eggs can be safely consumed as long as freshness and hygiene standards are met.

Türkiye remains a key egg supplier in its region, supported by strong production capacity and export capability in the poultry sector.
