Turkey’s Treasury and Finance Minister Nurettin Nebati, in his statement after the Food Committee meeting, announced that TMO will start selling cheap barley and corn again. The decision aims to reduce the costs for meat and milk producers.
The Food Committee convened in an attempt to reduce input prices. At the committee meeting held with the participation of Minister of Treasury and Finance Nurettin Nebati, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Vahit Kirişçi, Minister of Commerce Mehmet Muş and committee members, it was decided that TMO would start selling barley and corn at affordable prices again. “The Turkish Grain Board will restart selling affordable barley and corn to reduce the costs for our meat and milk producers. Additional measures were evaluated in the meeting,” Nebati said in his statement on Twitter.
Thereafter, a press release was issued by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance regarding the meeting. “Recent developments in domestic and international supply and prices of food and agricultural products, especially raw milk and red meat, have been analyzed. The scope of work of the previously established subcommittee has been expanded to investigate the reasons for the difference between producer and market prices and retail prices. Accordingly, all stages of food and agricultural products will be analyzed from field to fork, taking into account the supply and demand situation, waste rate, logistics process, and price developments, and the necessary studies will be carried out immediately. Studies for the dissemination of urban agriculture will be accelerated,” said the statement.
