At a
recent meeting, Scoular's FARM members explored innovative solutions for
sustainable farming and digital enhancements, showcasing the evolution of
modern agriculture.
Scoular's Farmer Advisory Roundtable Members (FARM) recently convened with the company's leadership to address emerging challenges in farm management and shape the company's future initiatives for producers.
Key discussions and events during the meeting included:
- Exploring the potential for sustainably produced goods, marked by a tour of Scoular’s soybean facility in Andres, Illinois. This plant plays a vital role in the soy sustainability supply chain, enabling farmers to adopt production methods that align with consumer sustainability expectations.
- Deliberations on renewable fuel markets, especially concerning the growth of winter canola for Scoular’s new oilseed crush facility in Goodland, Kansas.
- A visit to Jeff O’Connor's farming enterprise in Kankakee, Illinois, highlighted the O’Connor family's commitment to land care using techniques like cover crops, pollinator fields, and tile run-off management. The primary topic amongst members was water management: conserving it when scarce and handling its abundance.
- A dialogue about Scoular’s commitment to sustainable and regenerative practices. The attending farmers provided crucial insights on the development of regenerative agriculture programs.
- Updates on enhancements to Scoular's digital suite, ScoularView, based on prior feedback from FARM members.
Formed to ensure Scoular keeps pace with the dynamic agricultural sector, FARM facilitates closer ties between producers and Scoular's leadership. The group operates under the company’s enterprise producer strategy team, spearheaded by Melissa Norem.
Melissa Norem commented, “Scoular recognizes and proudly accepts our responsibility in the supply chain to support our producer base in meeting the challenges and opportunities that they face. We are thankful for the role our FARM advisors have in helping influence and implement Scoular’s strategic producer origination initiatives.”
Among the FARM representatives present were Kyle Campbell, Ashley Colglazier, Hazen Deeds, Jerry DeWeese, Kyle Miller, Jeff O’Connor, Kendal Peterson, Bill Rhea, Chad Simmelink, Chris Soehner, Todd Tobin, and Johnnie Witt.
