The Global Alliance of Pet Food Associations (GAPFA) gathered in Bangkok for its 2025 Technical Congress, where industry leaders stressed common ground between pet food and livestock feed in areas such as sustainability, trade, and food safety. Experts underlined how shared challenges are driving closer alignment across animal nutrition sectors.

The GAPFA Technical Congress and Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2025, hosted by the Petfood Industry Association of Thailand (PIA), brought together more than 60 delegates from global pet food companies, regulatory authorities, and international organizations between 23–25 June. Under the theme “Elevating Industry Growth through Commercial Diets, Safety, and Transparency”, discussions centered on sustainable growth, regulatory collaboration, and innovation in nutrition.

GAPFA President Loretta Hunter described the meeting as “a milestone underscoring our shared commitment to advancing pet food safety, sustainability, and industry best practices through open dialogue and collaboration.”
Experts from the UN World Food Programme and the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) joined GAPFA leadership and manufacturers in addressing sustainability, safe trade, and harmonized standards. Specialized workstream meetings explored nutrition, food safety, and trade facilitation, while the AGM reviewed strategic priorities for responsible sectoral growth.
For the feed industry, the Congress reaffirmed how developments in pet food increasingly mirror livestock feed challenges, from protein sourcing to global safety regulations. GAPFA’s 2026 Congress will take place in Ottawa, Canada, continuing this cross-sector dialogue.
