Key export levy removed, Turkish egg sector’s export path clears

Türkiye has lifted the deduction from the Price Stability and Support Fund (DFIF) on table egg exports by Presidential Decree. The move will reduce exporters’ cost burdens and make it easier to redirect products to foreign markets.

A decision eagerly awaited by Türkiye’s table egg exporters has been published in the Official Gazette. The Presidential Decree removes the DFIF deduction of $1.5 per kilogram that had been applied to table egg exports. The move is expected to ease the financial burden on exporters and improve competitiveness in international markets.

The Ministry of Trade issued a statement on the decision, noting that export practices are being updated in line with domestic market conditions and production dynamics. “The redirection of unsold domestic products to foreign markets has gained importance,” the statement said.

To recall, in February, a $0.50/kg deduction had been introduced on table egg exports, which was later increased to $1.5/kg in March. The Ministry stated that this measure helped to push prices down in the domestic market starting in April, with that downward trend continuing into July.

The Ministry emphasized that removing the DFIF deduction would facilitate the export of surplus products, especially at a time when supply is rising again. Seasonal storage challenges and the increasing cost pressures on exporters were also cited as factors influencing the decision.

The statement concluded: “As a ministry, we continue to monitor developments in the domestic market closely and take actions that preserve the supply-demand balance while protecting the welfare of both producers and consumers.”

The removal of the deduction is expected to revive exports and help maintain a stable market structure in the egg industry.

TOP EGG SECTOR VOICE HAD URGED THE REMOVAL TO KEEP THE INDUSTRY ‘PEDALING’

İbrahim Afyon, President of YUM-BİR (Turkish association of egg producers), had raised concerns about the burden of export restrictions in an exclusive interview with Feed Planet last month. He had noted that Türkiye’s production capacity had reached 136% of domestic demand. “Our goal was to raise our annual export revenues from $400 million to $500 million, but avian influenza and export restrictions disrupted this target,” Afyon had said. He had advocated for the removal of the DFIF deduction, seeing it as a vital step toward restoring momentum in the sector.

Afyon compared the egg sector to a cycling and said, “This industry can only move forward by pedaling.” He stressed that sustaining production is only possible through exports and warned against viewing foreign sales as a threat to the domestic market. With the deduction lifted, the sector is expected to regain momentum and return to its former rhythm in international markets.
