A Presidential Decree published in Türkiye’s Official Gazette has removed import duties on several fertilizer types. The move aims to protect the agricultural sector against rising global prices and supply risks. It follows a recent surge in energy and logistics costs.

Import tariffs on fertilizers were reduced to zero under a Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette dated April 3, 2026. The measure covers ammonium sulfate, ammonium nitrate, calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) and diammonium phosphate.

The decision comes amid recent volatility in global markets. The Ministry of Trade said the move is intended to secure fertilizer supply and limit the impact of rising costs on the agriculture and food sectors.

In particular, escalating geopolitical tensions following the war initiated by the US and Israel against Iran at the end of February have driven notable increases in energy, raw material and freight costs. These developments have put direct upward pressure on fertilizer prices.

Earlier, a separate decree issued on March 7 had also reduced import duties on urea fertilizer to zero, while imposing restrictions on its exports.

In Türkiye, fertilizer costs are largely tied to imported raw materials and energy prices, which is why similar measures have been introduced periodically in recent years.
