IFEEDER unveils new sustainability toolkit resource for animal food industry

IFEEDER has introduced new materials to its Animal Food Industry Sustainability Toolkit, detailing 16 critical issue areas for sustainability. This resource aims to guide industry members in enhancing their internal sustainability programs with practical examples and actionable insights.

The Institute for Feed Education and Research (IFEEDER) has expanded its Animal Food Industry Sustainability Toolkit by adding new materials that define 16 key issue areas for sustainability in the animal food industry. These issues, identified during phase one of IFEEDER's Sustainability Road Map project, span three pillars: People, Planet, and Governance.

"As the animal food industry continues to navigate the complex landscape of sustainability, the need for well-defined, actionable guidance has never been more important," said Lara Moody, IFEEDER executive director. "This new resource addresses that need by describing the scope of each issue in conjunction with real-world examples underway within the industry."

The comprehensive resource offers detailed descriptions of each issue, insights into its potential value to the industry, and illustrative examples from industry members. These materials are now available on IFEEDER’s website and will be continuously updated with new industry examples.

Launched initially in 2023, IFEEDER’s toolkit provides business leaders within the animal feed and pet food industry with practical resources for developing internal sustainability programs, responding to stakeholder requests, and communicating their sustainability efforts. The complete toolkit is accessible for free to American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) members and IFEEDER donors and can be purchased by nonmembers in AFIA's Online Store.

This project was a collaborative effort involving industry members and students from Iowa State University, led by Dr. Kurt Rosentrater, professor of agriculture biosystems and engineering. The project received generous support from Hill’s Pet Nutrition and Kent Nutrition Group.
