Global Seafood Sector Meets in Istanbul: Eurofish 2026 Conference Underway

Bringing industry representatives from around the globe together in Istanbul, the Eurofish 2026 Conference highlights the major transformation in the seafood sector, spanning from the use of robotics on production lines to the evolving food preferences of younger consumers.

The global-scale "Eurofish International Conference: Processing, Certification and Trade in the Fisheries and Aquaculture Business," set to shape the future of the fisheries and aquaculture sector, opened its doors today (June 9) at the CVK Park Bosphorus Hotel in Istanbul.

Organized through the cooperation of the Eurofish International Organisation and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye, the two-day event brings together government representatives, industry professionals, and scientists from all over the world, particularly Europe, the Black Sea region, the Caucasus, and Central Asia.

"SUSTAINABILITY AND INNOVATION" HIGHLIGHTED IN OPENING SPEECHES

The opening session of the conference featured addresses by Ebubekir Gizligider, Vice-Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye; Turgay Türkyılmaz, Director General for Fisheries and Aquaculture; and Marco Frederiksen, Director of the Eurofish International Organisation. The opening remarks underscored that the seafood sector is undergoing a transformative period in the shadow of global food crises and climate change.

TURKISH SALMON SUCCESS AND AI TECHNOLOGIES IN THE SPOTLIGHT

One of the most prominent topics on the first day of the conference was the success story of "The Road to Global Markets for Turkish Salmon," which has been making a name for itself worldwide.

As part of the event, forward-looking presentations are also being delivered on:

  • E-commerce trends and shifting consumer habits in the sector,
  • The integration of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) into production lines,
  • Smart aquaculture processing technologies and data optimization.

FOCUS ON SUSTAINABILITY AND CERTIFICATION

Tomorrow's (June 10) sessions will delve into young consumers' demands for processed and ready-to-eat seafood, alongside Corporate Sustainability and international certification standards. Critical panels will also be held on the World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies and ocean sustainability.
