The difference between the protein consumption and production is defined as protein deficit. When the current situation in the European countries is considered, it is seen that protein deficit has become an inescapable issue. European Feed Manufacturers' Federation (FEFAC) is frequently stressing the protein deficit in the EU feed sector in the recent years.Başlıksız-1 The rapid increase in the world population and the shift in the nutritional habits are increasing the demand for food of animal origin. When the current situation in the European countries is considered, it is seen that protein deficit has become an inescapable issue. European Feed Manufacturers' Federation (FEFAC) is frequently stressing the protein deficit in the EU feed sector. The special emphasis the institution lays on the issue in the events held in Turkey and European countries shows its significance. FEFAC has been seeking for alternative protein sources acutely in the last two years. The article which is penned by the Secretary General of FEFAC Alexander Döring and covering our special file in this issue bears the title of “The Development of a European Protein Plan and Environmentally Friendly Feed”. Mr. Döring explains the protein deficit in European and Turkish feed sectors and how the federation plans to cope with the problem.
