Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı said that the outcomes of the three-day 4th Agriculture and Forestry Council will be implemented with determination. Key agenda items included a new subsidy model, contract farming, and a roadmap for the livestock sector.
Speaking at the opening of the Council held from April 28 to 30, Minister Yumaklı emphasized the government’s commitment to following through with the Council’s conclusions. “Over the next three days, we will transform the insights we’ve meticulously shaped over 88 days into actionable decisions and plans. These will yield significant results not only for today but also to guide the next 10 years,” he said.
Yumaklı announced that the final decisions of the Council will be unveiled by President Erdogan on May 14, World Farmers’ Day. He noted that preparations began in September 2024 and involved collaboration with NGOs, academia, the private sector, and public institutions. He also cited the use of international agricultural reports throughout the process.
Highlighting a new livestock roadmap, Yumaklı said steps are being taken to boost local, self-sufficient, and sustainable production. He added that land consolidation projects are a key priority in efforts to reduce production costs and improve efficiency.
The Minister reminded that over 80% of Türkiye’s land and natural resources fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture and related sectors. Since the inaugural Council in 1997, the Ministry has convened two more—one in 2004 and another in 2019.
