For 50 years, Evonik’s Antwerp site has supported the world’s demand for sustainable animal feed through methionine production. As it celebrates this milestone, the company calls on EU leaders for policies that will help secure the future of European industry.
Evonik recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of methionine production at its Antwerp site, a cornerstone in its global supply of MetAMINO® (DL-methionine), essential for sustainable animal protein production. Established alongside its Wesseling, Germany site, Antwerp forms a European production base critical to Evonik’s supply security, with facilities also in the U.S. and Singapore reaching a combined output capacity of over 700,000 metric tons annually.
During the event, Evonik urged EU policymakers to strengthen support for competitive industry conditions across Europe, as emphasized by Johann-Caspar Gammelin, president of the Nutrition & Care division: “If European production sites are to survive in the face of global competition, policymakers must ensure competitive framework conditions.” Earlier this year, Evonik joined other industry leaders in signing the Antwerp Declaration for a European Industrial Deal, advocating for a stable future for Europe’s production sites.
Evonik’s investment focus on ecological efficiency extends to the Antwerp facility, where innovations such as green energy sourcing and minimized freshwater usage align with the company’s commitment to sustainability. As the company continues expanding globally, its integrated, forward-looking approach supports not only its customers but also a sustainable, secure supply of animal nutrition essentials for the global market.
