Evonik doubles down on MetAMINO® upgrades in 2025

Evonik has modernized its MetAMINO® logistics hub in Antwerp with a fully automated filling installation and expanded big-bag storage area. The upgrade enhances packaging flexibility, improves safety, and reinforces global supply security for its methionine customers.

Evonik took advantage of the planned shutdown of its methionine facilities in Antwerp during September and October to carry out major logistics upgrades for MetAMINO® (DL-methionine). The new filling installation and enlarged storage area for 1,000-kilogram big bags increase the company’s flexibility in meeting customer-specific packaging preferences. These improvements also enhance occupational safety and strengthen supply reliability worldwide.

“We see an increasing demand for larger packaging units in the methionine market,” said Dr. Dirk Hoehler, who leads Evonik Animal Nutrition’s amino acid business. “With the new, state-of-the-art filling facility, we are well equipped to meet current and future customer requirements.”

In addition to big bags, MetAMINO® from Antwerp is available in 25-kilogram bags and as bulk material. Earlier this year, Evonik had launched a more eco-friendly 25-kilogram paper-based packaging for methionine, reducing CO₂ emissions by 20 percent compared to the previous plastic-layered version.

Evonik’s Animal Nutrition business supplies growing feed markets from its world-scale production hubs in Antwerp (Belgium), Mobile (USA), and Singapore, ensuring a total annual MetAMINO® capacity exceeding 700,000 metric tons. The company continues to advance animal nutrition efficiency, sustainability, and supply security through science-based innovation.
