dsm-firmenich has introduced a shrimp module enabling shrimp farmers to measure and reduce their environmental impact. Grupo Almar, a top global shrimp producer, will utilize this module to enhance their sustainability efforts.
dsm-firmenich has launched a shrimp module for its Sustell™ environmental footprinting platform. This new tool allows shrimp farmers to comprehensively assess and minimize the environmental footprint of their operations. The module offers on-demand lifecycle assessments for all stages of shrimp production, including hatchery, nursery, and growout, along with a critical feed module.

Developed in collaboration with Ecuadorian shrimp producer Grupo Almar, the module will be implemented across their farms to support sustainability goals. “With Sustell™, we can take ownership of our full environmental footprint,” said Wolfgang Harten, General Manager/COO of Grupo Almar. “Now, with the new module for shrimp, we are able to take our sustainability efforts one step further.”
Louise Buttle, Sustell™ lead for Aqua at dsm-firmenich Animal Nutrition & Health, highlighted the platform’s benefits. “Sustell™ for shrimp demonstrates our commitment and continued innovations to further develop the sustainable production of seafood from aquaculture,” she stated. “Producers can now conduct full lifecycle assessments at scale, ensuring a strong return on investment and providing credible and accurate footprinting.”
