Mehmet Önen, CEO of Dardanel, a producer of tuna fish in Turkey, is listed among “40 Young CEOs under 40” by the Economist magazine to honor successful young business people. Twenty-seven-year-old Mehmet Önen is listed as 21st and also the youngest chairman in the list.

A leading company in the tuna fish for thirty-four years, Dardanel realized another important step in its long success list. Mehmet Önen, the young CEO of Dardanel, found himself as listed among the list of “40 Young CEOs under 40,” that happens to lead the most important brands in the country. Twenty-seven-year-old Mehmet Önen was ranked as the 21st and also the youngest chairman in the list. The list was prepared by the Ekonomist magazine. The award ceremony was held on July, 25th at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. “Ever since I could remember, I participated in many business meetings together with my father Niyazi Önen. I spent my summer vacations at the factory in Çanakkale. In this period, I got in touch with many people including workers and foreign customers. As a result, I have more experience compared to my peers,” Önen said during the award ceremony. He said that in order to be a successful leader, one needs a talented and intelligent team and has to give responsibility to this team and be just. Talking about plans of the company, Önen said, “We have been working to transfer this miracle protein to next generations by abiding fishing rules,” he said. Forty young CEOs are managing 30 billion Turkish Liras in total.
