CPM has unveiled its groundbreaking Direct Drive pellet mill, the PM1200DD, at LIGNA 2025 in Hannover. Engineered for high-capacity biomass processing, the new technology promises unmatched energy efficiency, durability, and performance.

CPM, a global leader in pellet mill manufacturing and process equipment, is proud to unveil the PM1200DD, the first of its kind in the alternative fuel industry, at LIGNA 2025 in Hannover, Germany. Designed for demanding applications, this innovative pellet mill is built to handle the toughest pelleting requirements, offering unmatched energy efficiency, performance, and reliability.

The new CPM Direct Drive pellet mill is engineered to process a wide range of biomass feedstocks, including agricultural residues and woody biomass. Unlike conventional systems, the Direct Drive technology eliminates the need for a gearbox or V-belt, making it the most advanced and energy-efficient pellet mill ever introduced to the market.

“At LIGNA 2025, we will reveal our newest pellet mill technology, the PM1200DD,” said Alvaro Timotheo, President, CPM Industrial Solutions. “This machine truly represents the next evolution in pelleting technology. With energy savings, enhanced performance, and simplified maintenance, this innovative machine is set to transform the industry.”

CPM retained FutureMetrics, the leading consultancy firm in the wood pellet sector, to analyze CPM's Direct Drive pellet mill onsite at a customer facility in October 2024. "We highly recommend the Direct Drive pellet mill to our clients," said John Swaan, Senior Operations Expert, FutureMetrics. "The Direct Drive would be a game-changer for those wood pellet producers who are struggling to maintain consistent uptime with problematic high-opex cost pellet mills."

Highlights of the PM1200DD include:

• Energy efficiency: The Direct Drive system offers up to 20% energy savings compared to traditional drive systems, thanks to its powerful torque motor that ensures high efficiency.
High torque and performance: With a higher torque compared to conventional systems, the Direct Drive produces denser pellets, meeting the toughest quality standards in the biomass industry.
Pellet quality: With a variable die speed stepless from 0 to 6.5 m/s without any loss of torque, this pellet mill covers almost all pelleting applications and provides excellent pellet quality with a high Pellet Durability Index (PDI).
Lower maintenance and cost: Fewer mechanical components reduce maintenance time and costs, while the innovative design also ensures a longer lifespan of the machine parts.
Compact footprint: The modular system features a compact design with the smallest footprint in its class, making it ideal for operations with limited space.
Simplified monitoring: The pellet mill includes simple monitoring options for product quality, including sampling at the press door, making quality assurance quick and efficient.
