The European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation (FEFAC) and the Brazilian Feed Industry Association (Sindirações) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen cooperation between two of the world’s major feed-producing regions. The agreement focuses on feed safety, biosecurity, sustainable production, and facilitating trade under the newly applied EU–Mercosur Partnership Agreement.
Signed in Brussels on 7 August 2026, the Memorandum of Understanding establishes a framework for exchanging regulatory intelligence and technical expertise between the European Union and Brazil. Both organizations will collaborate on tracking legislative initiatives regarding feed ingredient approvals, labeling requirements, maximum residue levels, and environmental footprint metrics. The initiative aims to protect market access and support resilient livestock production across both regions by streamlining stakeholder dialogue on critical trade commodities, including soy products, feed grains, biofuel co-products, and essential feed additives.
The agreement reflects a joint push to align on science-based international standards within global bodies such as Codex Alimentarius, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), and the World Trade Organization (WTO). By addressing mutual challenges around responsible sourcing and regulatory compliance, the partnership seeks to ensure a stable supply of feedstuffs while advancing sustainability goals in compound feed manufacturing.
“We welcome this reinforced partnership between FEFAC and Sindirações, which strengthens cooperation between two important compound feed-producing regions exploring the opportunities which can deliver mutual benefit to our respective members,” said FEFAC President Nicolas Coudry-Mesny. “Brazil represents a region of great significance in global feed production and trade with feed ingredients. It is fundamental to maintain market access to ensure EU feed security and a competitive and sustainable livestock production in Europe.”
Echoing the strategic importance of the alliance, Sindirações President Roberto Ignacio Betancourt noted: “The European Union plays a pivotal role in the global production and trade of feed and feedstuffs. Preserving market access is essential to safeguarding the EU’s feed supply while supporting competitive and sustainable livestock production across Europe. Through close cooperation, Europe and Brazil can foster the continued growth and resilience of their feed industries.”
The agreement was finalized during the 19th International Feed Regulators Meeting (IFRM), an event organized by the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
