Türkiye plans to remove red meat imports from the national agenda by 2028, with efforts to expand domestic production and ensure sustainability in the livestock sector. The government states that the country increased cattle and sheep populations significantly positioning itself as a key player in global livestock rankings. Currently, red meat self-sufficiency stands at 95%. “We will remove red meat imports from the country’s agenda by 2028,” said İbrahim Yumaklı, Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, emphasizing that regulatory changes and a focus on increasing animal stock are essential to achieving this goal. Further, the government has initiated a series of projects, including the “Livestock Production Development Project,” which aims to support local producers and maintain price stability.
