TMO’s 2027 goal: Integrating 17.5 million tons of grain reserves into the economy

Following a record 2026 harvest cycle, Turkish State Grain Board (TMO) reported total grain reserves of 17.5 million tons. The institution’s primary strategy for 2027 focuses on integrating these stocks into the economy through domestic sales and export channels while re-establishing storage capacity for upcoming production cycles.

TMO General Manager Ahmet Güldal presented the institution’s 2026 balance sheet, stating that TMO procured over 12.5 million tons of grain comprising 9.8–9.9 million tons of wheat and 2.5 million tons of barley from a 140-million-ton crop harvest. Total payments to producers reached TRY 187 billion.

To maintain market stability and ensure supply predictability for flour millers and compound feed manufacturers, TMO made 5.5 million tons of wheat available for sale as of October 2026. Outlining the agency’s 2027 operational roadmap, Güldal emphasized that the priority is to commercialize the existing 17.5-million-ton reserve via domestic and international markets, thereby clearing storage capacity ahead of the new harvest season.

“Our primary objective is to integrate the 17.5-million-ton grain stock into the economy through sales, leveraging both domestic and foreign market opportunities, and to recreate the necessary storage capacity for the next season,” stated Güldal.

TMO currently operates a 15-million-ton licensed warehouse network alongside 4 million tons of state-owned storage infrastructure.
