Storing feed in fibreglass silos

We can state that fibreglass silos are the ideal solution for feed storage in humid and salt-saturated atmospheric conditions, such as on islands, peninsulas and in coastal areas, and wherever temperature fluctuations between day and night, summer and winter are particularly relevant.

Mario Ardenghi Export Manager AGRITECH SRL Agritech srl, a private company certified with the UNI EN ISO 9000-2008 Quality Standard, has been manufacturing assorted equipment for intensive animal breeding for more than 30 years. Particularly, Agritech has specialized as a producer of fibreglass feed and grain silos.

During this time we have remarkably expanded our market shares: Agritech is now producing around 5000 silos per year, 85% of which are regularly exported to Europe and to several extra-European countries.

Our feed bins are completely rust-proof and, although very light, they present high resistance to mechanical stress (fibreglass bodies, unlike those made in plastic, do not shrink if exposed to low temperatures nor expand if exposed to high temperatures) and a long life (at least 25 years without needing any special maintenance). Their fibreglass, non-conductive structure provides feed with natural insulation both from heat and from cold, which is a big advantage in comparison with metal sheets, that are known to transfer environmental heat into the bins. This way, the feed stored in our bins is prevented from being degraded by the effects of condensation; as a consequence, it does not undergo alterations neither in its taste nor in its consistency, it can be kept in good hygienic conditions for long and always flows easily down through the cone, without generating bridges.

Moreover, Agritech silos are all supplied with deep, 67° angled hoppers, which contributes, in connection with their glass-smooth inside surfaces, to the complete emptying of the content, with no dust and no waste remaining in the bin (which are the main cause of the onset of mushrooms and mildew in feed).

Finally, the white, UV-stabilized gel-coat they are painted in fully protects the bodies from environmental agents, such as rain and snow, and from the aging due to UV-radiations.

Based on above features, we can state that fibreglass silos are the ideal solution for feed storage in humid and salt-saturated atmospheric conditions, such as on islands, peninsulas and in coastal areas, and wherever temperature fluctuations between day and night, summer and winter are particularly relevant. They definitely proved to be a valid alternative to galvanized silos in all the Mediterranean Region, as well as in Latin America and in some parts of the Asian Far East. But they were also successfully installed in extremely low-temperature areas like Scandinavia, the Baltic States, Canada.

Thanks to their modular construction, the fibreglass silos of Agritech can be transported in large quantities by truck or by sea containers, which helps reducing the freight cost.

As far as the assembly is concerned, two workers can normally assemble a 9-ton-bin of Agritech in 3 hours time, which is one third of the time required to assemble a metal silo of the same size. This makes Agritech silos an inexpensive, yet valuable and durable solution for any storage requirement.
