Evonik’s Supervisory Board has appointed Dr. Claus Rettig to the Executive Board as Deputy Chairman, effective September 1, 2026, to temporarily assume the responsibilities of Chief Executive Officer Christian Kullmann. Kullmann is undergoing rehabilitation following a recent serious and unplanned surgery, with the company expecting him to resume his duties upon recovery. Rettig, a 66-year-old chemist who has been with Evonik for over three years, currently serves as General Representative in Singapore heading the group's Asia-Pacific operations, a role he will maintain alongside his new board executive responsibilities.

His appointment aims to ensure leadership stability amid ongoing challenges in the global chemical industry and the execution of the group's corporate transformation. “Evonik is in the midst of the biggest transformation in its history,” stated Rettig regarding the interim setup. “Together with our colleagues on the Executive Board, we will consistently pursue the course we have chosen.” Supervisory Board Chairman Bernd Toenjes emphasized that Rettig’s extensive management background provides essential continuity, noting that he holds the full trust of the board during this transition.
