In a strategic move towards advancing Oman’s nutritional security, the Omani Bioproducts Company will commence the construction of a state-of-the-art animal feed and aquafeed factory in Khazaen Economic City, investing RO 37 million ($96.13 million) across three phases. The facility, a joint venture of Nakheel Oman Development Company and the Omani Mills Group, affiliated with the Oman Food Investment Holding Company, exemplifies cooperation between entities under the Oman Investment Authority.
The factory will annually produce 100,000 tons of alternative grass feed made from agricultural residues enriched with dates, alongside 300,000 tons of marine animal feed for shrimp and fish cultured in cages. The project underscores Oman’s commitment to using circular and bioeconomic principles, utilizing local raw materials sustainably, and contributing to the “Oman 2040” vision.
Haitham bin Shakhbout Al Saadi, Vice Chairman of the Omani Bioproducts Company, highlighted the project’s significance in supporting food security initiatives, serving both local needs and export markets. The tender for construction was issued in June, and the company anticipates awarding the contract by year-end, with equipment already arriving on site.
