The European Commission (EC) has announced a call for applications for the position of Executive Director at the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Interested and eligible candidates must apply by 27 September 2024.

The Executive Director serves as EFSA's legal representative and public figure, responsible for overseeing the agency's operations and leading its strategic direction. This leadership role is critical as EFSA continues to provide scientific advice and risk assessments related to the food chain, impacting both human and animal health.

The selection process involves the EFSA Management Board appointing the new Executive Director from a shortlist provided by the EC. The initial appointment is for five years, with the possibility of a single renewal for another five-year term.

EFSA, an independent EU agency located in Parma, Italy, was established in 2002. Dr. Bernhard Url, EFSA’s Acting Executive Director, has been leading the agency since May 2024, following the end of his second term.
