MAİB: Europe’s competitiveness strategy cannot be built without Türkiye

The Machinery Exporters’ Association (MAİB) has highlighted that the industrial policy debates and supply chain approaches currently taking place within the European Union directly affect Türkiye. Association President Kutlu Karavelioğlu stated that Europe’s competitiveness strategy cannot be built without integrated production partners such as Türkiye.

Kutlu Karavelioğlu, President of the Machinery Exporters’ Association (MAİB), noted that the ongoing discussions around industrial policies and supply chains in the European Union signal a critical period for Türkiye, emphasizing that Europe’s competitiveness strategy cannot be shaped without Türkiye.

Pointing out that industrial policies in the EU are being reshaped as localization criteria in public procurement and support programs have recently strengthened, Karavelioğlu said this process directly concerns countries such as Türkiye that are partners in the Customs Union. Karavelioğlu stated: “As the deepening of the Single Market is being discussed, we believe it will become clear that excluding such a closely integrated partner in terms of production, investment and standards is not a rational choice. If one pillar of competitiveness is protectionism, the other is cost control, and this balance cannot be established without including Türkiye.”

Karavelioğlu also noted that circles advocating a “Made with EU” approach instead of “Made in EU” are becoming increasingly visible in debates on industrial policy within the EU. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the integration of European industry with global supply chains, adding that this approach aims to strengthen the EU’s links with international production networks.
