The collaboration between Evonik and BASF marks a significant milestone in sustainable chemical production. The delivery of biomass-balanced ammonia demonstrates both companies' commitment to reducing their product carbon footprint and enhancing their sustainability profiles.
Evonik and BASF have announced a groundbreaking agreement for the first delivery of BASF’s ammonia BMBcert™ grade. This partnership introduces a product with a reduced product carbon footprint (PCF), achieving at least a 65% decrease compared to conventional ammonia. This development reflects the companies' ongoing commitment to a more sustainable economy and ambitious emissions reduction goals.
Evonik has already received its first shipment of ammonia BMBcert™ produced by BASF, which is integrated into Evonik's ISCC PLUS certified production processes. “Evonik and BASF share the same vision: We are convinced that the chemical industry can transform and replace fossil with renewable feedstocks and utilities,” stated Dr. Jens Aßmann, BASF’s Vice President for the Ammonia Value Chain.
The ammonia will be utilized in the production of sustainable products like VESTAMIN® IPD eCO and VESTAMID® eCO Polyamide 12. Silvia Torrado, Global Procurement Director at Evonik, expressed excitement over the partnership, emphasizing its role in their commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation.
With plans to achieve significant emission reductions by 2030 and climate neutrality by 2050, this collaboration signals a vital step towards more sustainable practices in the chemical industry.
