Türkiye’s 4th Machinery Summit focused on industry resilience, highlighting a unified stance on market surveillance and the sector’s shift toward sustainability and advanced engineering.
Türkiye Machinery Federation (MAKFED) hosted the 4th Machinery Summit with the theme “Durable & Sustainable,” convening key industry leaders to discuss essential developments and the sector’s resilience in the face of global economic shifts. Held at the newly inaugurated Makina Hangar in collaboration with Kartal Municipality and the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers, the event featured Sanayi ve Teknoloji Bakan Yardımcısı Dr. Çetin Ali Dönmez, Türkiye Exporters Assembly Vice Chair Kutlu Karavelioğlu, and General Manager of Product Safety and Inspection at the Ministry of Trade, Hakkı Karabörklü.
Dr. Dönmez emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to rigorous market surveillance, explaining that safety inspections are guided by risk analyses and complaints. He encouraged the industry to provide suggestions to enhance product safety, stating, “Our Ministry is open to all new ideas that can boost the efficiency of product safety inspections.”
Kutlu Karavelioğlu, representing Türkiye’s exporters, noted the sector’s challenges amid rising production costs and shifting trade dynamics. Reflecting on machinery exports, he observed, “By year’s end, our exports will have held steady, achieved by innovative measures such as reducing intermediate goods and raw material imports.” However, he cautioned against over-celebrating minor improvements, stressing the need for Türkiye’s manufacturing sector to stay competitive as European production declines.
MAKFED President Adnan Dalgakıran
MAKFED President Adnan Dalgakıran called for stronger rules on market oversight to address unfair competition and bolster economies of scale, remarking, “Without effective market surveillance, unfair competition flourishes, hindering scale economies.” He noted MAKFED’s readiness to support technical enhancements and testing infrastructure. “To compete globally, we must develop buyer financing mechanisms and prioritize investments more strategically.”
The summit, expanded to three days, included engineering-focused workshops on topics such as artificial intelligence, circular economy, and digitalization, underscoring the industry’s adaptive approach in advancing Türkiye’s machinery sector amid complex global market dynamics.
