Chromatography redefined: BÜCHI's 'Pure Essential' launch

18 August 20232 min reading

BÜCHI Labortechnik AG, a provider of laboratory equipment, has added the Pure Essential Chromatography system to its portfolio. This instrument serves as an introduction to automated flash chromatography and benefits from an easy-to-use, compact, and modular design that allows the system to grow with your needs.

The traditional open-column setup serves as many individuals' introduction to chromatography. This method is rooted in the system used by chromatography’s inventor, Mikhail Tsvet. This basic system features a glass column with two open ends, with some instances using a burette instead of a column. The design includes a stopcock at its base to manage the solvent flow, which ultimately goes to a collection flask. Relying on gravity, this method can be slower and requires manual intervention for each separation step.

Technological advancements over time have introduced improved chromatography methods. However, some modern systems, with their advanced features, may not align with every user's needs. In response to this, BÜCHI Labortechnik AG developed the Pure Essential Chromatography system. This system integrates a 50 bar pump for enhanced flow rates, facilitating efficient processing of solvents and samples. Automation features, complemented by intuitive software controls, streamline the process to produce timely and consistent results. Furthermore, the system utilizes prepacked flash cartridges, negating manual column packing. Emphasizing efficiency, the design incorporates smaller particle sizes for improved resolution and reduced solvent use.

Designed with flexibility in mind, the Pure Essential Chromatography system is modular, offering adaptability based on specific requirements. Components such as a UV detector or fraction collector can be incorporated, and safety features, like a pressure sensor, are integral to the design.

Dr. Ruedi Hartmann, Director of Business Areas & Vertical Markets at BÜCHI Labortechnik, stated, “The Pure Essential Chromatography system is super easy to use, without any bells and whistles. It benefits from a small footprint and attractive price as well; it is the perfect way to enter the preparative chromatography instrument world when used to using open columns.”

In summary, the Pure Essential Chromatography system is a part of BÜCHI Labortechnik AG's diverse offerings, reflecting the company's commitment to catering to a broad range of sectors.
