Bunge Global SA has finalized its $34 billion merger with Viterra Limited, creating a major new competitor to giants ADM and Cargill. The combined entity significantly strengthens capabilities in oilseed processing and grain origination, directly impacting global feed ingredient supply chains.

The merger, officially completed this week, forms an agribusiness powerhouse positioned to rival Archer-Daniels-Midland (ADM) and Cargill. Bunge CEO Greg Heckman called it a defining moment: “Together, we’ve formed a stronger organization with enhanced capabilities to meet the evolving needs of our customers and to fulfill our shared purpose: connecting farmers to consumers to deliver food, feed, and fuel to the world.” He confirmed the immediate focus is integrating teams and operations.

Analysts highlight the merger's specific boost to Bunge's presence in the United States grain export and oilseed processing sectors, areas where it previously lagged. Integrating Viterra’s global network enhances scale and operational efficiency, crucial for competing in complex agricultural markets.

Final regulatory approval came last month when China’s market regulator granted conditional clearance, following similar conditional approvals from Canadian and European Union authorities. These conditions were designed to preserve market competition.

The combined company links major grain-producing regions to key consumption markets, offering diversified agricultural products and broader access to origination points. This promises more robust supply chain solutions for feed manufacturers. Operational synergies are expected through vertical integration, improved logistics, and expanded trading flexibility, supporting stable cash flows.

Greg Heckman remains CEO and John Neppl CFO of the unified entity.
