French agri-food group Avril has inaugurated Innolab, its first integrated R&D facility focused on plant-based nutrition for both human food and animal feed. The lab will develop sustainable alternatives like PROVEA® plant protein concentrates for aquaculture and livestock feed.

Avril opened its 50-researcher Innolab facility in Bruz, France, with dedicated divisions for food, feed, and data innovation. The feed lab targets livestock challenges including GHG reduction and soy replacement, featuring in vitro digestion simulators for pigs, poultry, and ruminants.

Key projects include PROVEA® plant protein concentrates (>50% protein) from European peas and faba beans for aquaculture and young animal feed. "Innovation drives Avril’s growth," said Paul-Joël Derian, Innovation Director. The lab collaborates with Sanders and MiXscience’s animal nutrition teams and academic partners like INRAE.

The data division uses AI to accelerate feed formulation and environmental impact analysis, while the food lab develops oilseed-based ingredients. The facility strengthens Avril’s 2030 strategy to lead in plant-based solutions across agriculture’s value chain.
