Key to the best quality and quantity of cattle milk, and meat, is a proper and balanced diet. Total rations must have a macro- and micronutrient profile specifically tailored to the metabolism of dairy cows and cattle.
When producing feed, the focus is on the supply of optimal ingredients to the animals. To achieve this, the composition must be precisely balanced to meet the nutrient requirements of cattle, dairy cows and sheep. However, special attention must also be paid to the dosage form in order to achieve the greatest possible acceptance by livestock. To meet the demand for feedstuffs that are as natural as possible, it is important to avoid artificial additives yet still achieve a stable product that is well received. Crespeo's functional binders, made from the natural raw material wheat, are a modern solution that can be used to optimise the consistency of both liquid and dry feed, while also providing added nutritional value.
Quality is key
Key to the best quality and quantity of cattle milk, and meat, is a proper and balanced diet. Total rations must have a macro- and micronutrient profile specifically tailored to the metabolism of dairy cows and cattle. Concentrated feed, which is given in addition to basic feed such as hay, grass silage or maize, plays an important role in efficient feeding. Thanks to its comparatively high content of nutrients and energy, it ensures both a high milk yield and daily gains.
The quality of the concentrated feed is crucial for the economic success of a farm, so must therefore be well accepted by the animal and also take into account on-site conditions. The feed components of Crespeo's Crespovit® range, which are derived from wheat, are a functional aid for the production of a holistic feed product. Crespovit® Starch is process-stable and serves as a binding agent: for example, it ensures a homogeneous feed mixture that does not sediment, and thus prevents selective feeding, so the entire herd is reliably supplied. The wheat starches offer further versatile application possibilities - for example, the viscosity of the product can be adjusted during processing, with the starch acting as a carrier for nutrients and flavourings. As a functional binder for pellets, the ingredient helps regulate pellet properties such as texture, strength and stability, and thus prevents the pieces from crumbling.
Improved texture and consistency
Wheat starches provide optimised properties in the end product, as they influence texture and consistency while increasing the natural content. Wheat is one of the oldest crops, and one which the Crespel & Deiters Group has been committed to processing for more than 160 years. Like humans, animals benefit from the valuable ingredients in wheat grain. It is easily digestible and contains essential vitamins and minerals, as well as protein, starch and fibre. All the Crespovit products use the grain’s potential for functional feed components, which enables the production of nutritious, efficient and yet natural feed. The product portfolio for the feed industry includes dried, powdered wheat starches, alongside liquid, wheat-based starch products.
Perfect for young animals
When rearing young animals, it’s important to realise that they have different needs in terms of feed performance. A selection of high-quality raw materials for milk replacers and prestarters is crucial in the first months of life, as this is the only way to ensure healthy development and future high performance. Crespeo offers various components for this special feed for different processes and recipes. Crespovit® Starch can also be used here. Highly soluble, it acts as a natural stabiliser inside the formulation. With a high starch content of at least 75%, it increases viscosity and can be easily absorbed by young animals as a readily available source of energy. It also provides valuable ingredients, such as highly digestible protein, swollen raw fibres, pentosans and minerals.
The extruded wheat flours Crespovit® Flour offer many nutritional advantages. As a nutrient substitute in milk replacers and pre-starters, they enable rapid energy absorption, thus increasing development and daily gains of the animals. The application rate of extruded wheat flours varies between 5-15% in feed mixes and milk replacers, depending on the requirements. With up to 77% starch, Crespovit® Flour improves the compatibility of carbohydrates and enriches the feed with denatured proteins. Good solubility of the extruded wheat flours results in a homogeneous mixture without gel or agglomerate formation, and reduces disturbances in feed intake and sedimentation of the product. The same advantages, yet with an increased protein content of over 80%, can be achieved with the use of Crespovit® Protein in milk replacers and prestarters.
Wheat of the highest quality
Only EU wheat is used in the production of Crespovit products. This guarantees that the raw material is free from genetically modified ingredients, but rich in nutrients and characterised by a high degree of purity. Strict requirements in the supply chain ensure that all upstream processes are assessed using a HACCP system, and possible risks of chemical, physical and microbiological contamination minimised or eliminated. All components of the Crespovit range are tested, certified and free of chemicals. Thanks to strictly regulated quality assurance measures, CRESPEO offers reliable products that guarantee a year-round optimal supply of feed.
Sustainability throughout the value chain
Farmers face the current challenge of reconciling higher animal welfare with increasingly sustainable farming and economic efficiency. Yet this can only succeed if all those in the value chain make the necessary contributions. In the field of feed production, the aim is to continuously optimise the nutrition of farm animals in line with the latest scientific knowledge. The combination of many years of expertise in processing, and investment in R&D, enables innovative and holistic solutions tailored to the specific needs of feed producers. The Crespel & Deiters Group fully utilises the grain to provide natural and highly functional products for food, pet food and feed, and technical applications.
Future-proof
The unavoidable consequences of climate change are also creating new hurdles in terms of livestock farming: in particular, persistent high temperatures in the summer months will inevitably lead to a change in feeding conditions. For example, an increased combination of nutrients may be required to compensate for declining feed intake on hot days. As a service partner, Crespel & Deiters can respond directly to changing requirements. Thanks to continuous research and development work, modern products are created that work in practice - and all using a highly available, natural and sustainable raw material.
