A few notes on smart investment as we enter a new year

03 February 20262 min reading
We are meeting you with the first issue of the New
Year. Frankly, the world has not started the year on an
encouraging note. Greenland, Venezuela, Iran, Syria…
The headlines are heavy, the uncertainties familiar. Still,
one can only hope that despite everything, solutions
emerge and that the months ahead bring a little more
stability, health and peace.
Against such a backdrop, working in and writing
about the feed industry feels more meaningful than
ever. This is a sector that operates quietly but carries
enormous responsibility. Feed milling sits at the
intersection of agriculture, energy, trade and food
security. When volatility rises elsewhere, its effects are
quickly felt here.
That is precisely why we chose smart investment
in feed milling as the central theme of this issue. Not
because investment is fashionable, but because
it has become more complex, more selective and
more consequential. The question facing millers and
investors today is no longer how much capacity to
add, but how to build operations that can withstand
market pressure, adapt to change and remain viable
over time.
Across regions, we see similar dilemmas
approached in very different ways. Some focus on
optimization rather than expansion, others on flexibility
rather than scale. Technology, sustainability and
resilience are part of the conversation, but rarely in
isolation. What matters is how these elements come
together under real-world constraints.
In this issue, we have tried to reflect that reality. We
have put together content that looks at investment
decisions, operational choices and the key dynamics
shaping feed milling today from different angles. This
is an intentionally dense issue, prepared with care, and
best read slowly and thoughtfully.
I hope you enjoy reading it. If it helps you look
at some familiar topics from a slightly different
perspective, we will consider that a success. We look
forward to meeting you again in the next issue.
